A Letter To You
The year 2007 began a new era for the Squirrel Nut Zippers. After some years away, we have been very pleased to come together again and perform throughout the US. Audiences from San Francisco to New York not only made us feel welcomed, but missed as well. We felt the real reunion was between the band and the audience. Great to see familiar faces and favorite places.
With gigs starting in February in DC, we began rummaging through the archives. Over the course of 40 or so shows, we played songs from our entire catalogue, which was very illuminating. It gave us a snapshot of our career that we had never seen before. It's so rare to get that kind of perspective. These shows also proved to us that our chemistry is undeniable - both on stage and off. None of this would be possible if we didnt feel that sense of togetherness. As it turns out, the break we took helped us become a better band. A better Family.
In addition to the original band members Katherine Whalen, Jimbo Mathus, Chris Phillips, Je Widenhouse and Stuart Cole, we enlisted the steadfast William Dawson playing Keys, Guitar and Alto Sax. On Baritone Sax and Tuba we had the amazing Henry Westmoreland. We were also very lucky to have on loan from The Old Ceremony, Gabriel Pelli on Violin - a phenomenal soloist. All these guys added so much to the band. We felt very proud to have them.
One never knows how events will transpire in our crazy band. Its always been that way. We have lots of hopes for the future and guarantee we're going to keep exploring music the way we always have. With more shows to come we hope to see everyone that we missed so far this year. It's a pleasure. It's a sweet confection. It's always a mystery. That's the way we like it.
A Word About Merchandise
Many of you have asked if it was possible for you to purchase Squirrel Nut Zippers T-Shirts, CDs and other merchandise online. We sincerely apologize for not being able to provide that option to you this year. Please rest assured that we are working hard at making that happen as soon as possible. We will send out an e-mail notification as soon as this option is available.
